MAJOR ACHIEVEMENTS
- DEPARTMENT OF MEDICAL EDUCATION, RMC
Department of Medical Education was established in Rawalpindi Medical College in year 2006. The main aim is faculty development and produce doctors who fulfill the needs of society in future, using modern methodologies and evidence based medicine.
Following are the major achievements of Department of Medical Education.
a. FACULTY DEVELOPMENT
(I) WORKSHOPS

Ten workshops have been conducted on “Orientation on Medical Education”, attended by 198 participants.

Five workshops have been conducted on “Basics of Assessment”, attended by 110 participants.
-
Four workshops have been conducted on “MCQs”, attended by 71 participants.
-
Ten workshops have been conducted on “Problem Based learning”, attended by 171 participants.
-
Four workshops have been conducted on “Lecturing Skills”, attended by 72 participants.
-
Two workshops have been conducted on “Basics of Computer Skills for faculty”, attended by 24 participants.
-
Two workshops have been conducted on “Microsoft Excel”, attended by 26 participants.
-
Two workshops have been conducted on “Training of Trainers”, attended by 58 participants.
-
One workshop has been conducted on “Facilitation Enhancement (FEW1)”, attended by 13 participants.
(II) INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON MEDICAL EDUCATION
- Paper was presented on “Implementation of Problem Based Learning in the 1st Year Medical Course under Traditional Curriculum” at Fatima Jinnah Medical College on 12th November 2008.
- Paper was presented on “Integrated Teaching-RMC Model” at International Conference on Medical Education held on 25th-27th January 2009 at convention centre Islamabad and 44 faculty members of RMC & Allied Hospitals attended.
b. STUDENTS DEVELOPMENT
(II) WORKSHOPS
- Five workshops have been conducted on “Leadership Skills”, attended by 70 participants.
- Two workshops have been conducted on “Communication Skills”, attended by 31 participants.
- One workshop has been conducted on “Time Management Workshop”, attended by 9 participants.
- Four workshops have been conducted on “Basics of Computer Skills”, attended by 300 students of 1st year class.
- Introduction of Computer
- Software & Hardware
- Operating system Microsoft Windows XP & Microsoft Office
- Internet browsing
- International Conference on Medical Education held on 25th – 27th January 2009 at Convention Centre Islamabad and 31 students attended the Conference.
C CURRICULUM DEVELOPMENT
- After the success of integrated teaching Pilot project, need was felt to introduce integrated teaching holistically.
- The curriculum development process was initiated in the second half of June involving about 80 faculty members (senior & intermediate level).
- Finally a document was developed for first and second year comprising of 12 modules.
- Horizontal integration of basic sciences subjects with PBL and SDL session was started for the 1st & 2nd year classes.
E FUTURE PLANS
- Development of modules for the 3rd &4th year classes.
- Development of Examination Cell & marking of papers with the help of optical mark scanner.
- Summer workshops for students in the coming vacations.
- Diploma in Medical Education.
- Continue workshops on Client Centered Approach & Lecturing Skills. Orientation Workshop on Medical Education, Problem Based Learning, MCQs, Basics of Assessment, Training of Trainers workshop, Facilitation Enhancement, Evidence Based Medicine & Basics of Computer Skills etc.
